Actually in the 1950s U.S. Air Force had considered conducting a nuclear test on the moon. However, the only test known as Project A 119 would have had little effect on the moon.

In the seventies, a television show was made on a similar story in which the moon escapes from its orbit into space due to a nuclear accident. Of course this can only happen in a show, not in reality.
We do not know much about the moon's radio-activation. It is open to cosmic rays and the sun's radiation and, like the Earth's atmosphere, it does not have any protective shell.
NASA sent LUNAR RECONNALSANCE ORBITAL in 2009 and one of its tasks was to collect facts about radiation in the moon's atmosphere.
